Transforming from ‘Good to Great’ with Culture:
An Architectural Cornerstone for London and for Musical Arts
Across North America and around the world, large and small cities foster the arts as an essential means of creating vibrant, livable and prosperous communities. Performance venues are a cornerstone of this vitality and every successful metropolitan area in the world is likely to boast at least one facility – sometimes a monument – as a tangible commitment to both classical and contemporary musical arts.
London Ontario is in the heart of one of the richest cultural areas in the world. Over the last two decades this great City has seen its share of possibility and momentum in support of building a performing arts centre. Fueled by an inadequate Centennial Hall, outstanding citizen support and a plethora of feasibility work, the issue has come to the fore numerous times and while unrealized to date, the citizen movement has remained unwavering. The struggle to transform has confronted many of the great cities of our time… but they did transform …so can London and the time is now. |
